Partner with Urrbrae Agricultural High School to coordinate and deliver an inaugural agricultural, science and vet careers expo that showcased career pathways, university and trade study opportunities and job opportunities to South Australian students.
AgC, through its Food and Fibre Education SA project, identified and coordinated more than 40 industry partners and sponsors to participate in the expo, which was held at Urrbrae Agricultural High School. Each exhibitor was briefed on the need to engage students and profile the awesome careers offered. AgC coordinated sponsors, exhibitors, event management and marketing, careers brochure development and facilitation of the event.
This project delivered a highly engaging careers event for Urrbrae Agricultural High School. More than 450 people attended, with regional schools bringing students to Adelaide to participate. Recognising the potential for direct contact with future employees, 40 providers participated and said it was a unique opportunity. Exhibitors displayed the diversity of tertiary and trade careers and job opportunities available in SA. The evening included a careers panel, with speakers discussing global food security, ag technology and innovation, and providing tips for successful job seeking. The event is likely to be held every year to benefit students and build ongoing relationships between schools and universities, government agencies and industry. Feedback was outstanding with feedback from parents that it inspired their children to consider ag careers.
